The Area

The region covered by the Taunton office continues to be amongst the highest growth areas of the country in terms of demand for housing.

Taunton itself, the County town of Somerset, is a prosperous and historical town. It provides an excellent choice of shopping, educational, cultural and sporting facilities. There are 4 public schools in the area, a theatre and County cricket ground in the town and several golf courses nearby. It is very conveniently located for access to national communications with a main line railway station from which London can be reached in 1¾ hours, an M5 motorway junction and a trunk road leading to the M3 motorway and London.

The town lies in the Vale of Taunton Deane which is overlooked by the Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills. These hills are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provide wonderful opportunities for walking, riding and other country pursuits. At the western end of the Vale lie the Brendon Hills which adjoin Exmoor National Park. Exmoor offers stunning landscapes, wilderness and tranquillity and has about 750 miles of waymarked paths and bridleways. The attractive south and north coastlines of the South-West peninsular are easily accessible.

The Somerset Levels and Moors have international status as one of the most important wetland landscapes in the world. They are home to a diverse range of wildlife and wildflowers. There are several reserves open to the public and it is an area packed with heritage and local traditional industries which include willow growing and eel and elver fishing.
