Taunton itself, the County town of Somerset, is a prosperous and historical town. It provides an excellent choice of shopping, educational, cultural and sporting facilities. There are 4 public schools in the area, a theatre and County cricket ground in the town and several golf courses nearby. It is very conveniently located for access to national communications with an inter-city railway station, an M5 motorway junction and a trunk road leading to the M3 motorway and London.

The town lies in the Vale of Taunton Deane which is overlooked by the Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills. These hills are designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provide wonderful opportunities for walking, riding and other country pursuits. At the western end of the Vale lie the Brendon Hills which adjoin the National Park of Exmoor where there are over 600 miles of waymarked paths and bridleways. The attractive south and north coastlines of the South-West peninsular are easily accessible.
